Join award-winning Indigenous artist Karen Goodfellow as she delves into the process of how she creates pieces from initial concept to completion. Using works from her current exhibition River Bends and Totem Ends and other shows, she explores how the mess isn’t IN the way, it IS the way. In this multi-media, interactive presentation she’ll share how she finds meaning in the midst of forgotten, cast off, decomposing and often forlorn items.

The City of Pitt Meadows is excited to offer space twice a month at the South Bonson Community Centre for a free drop-in Open Art Studio. We welcome artists from beginners to those more experienced who are passionate about visual arts and want to work, learn, share and engage with other like-minded people in the community!
Join our Feature Artist each quarter who will touch on everything from the basics such as perspective, colour and sketching to interesting techniques such as palette knife painting.
Please bring your own supplies and do not share with others as a safety precaution against Covid-19. Tables and chairs will be provided. Just a reminder that this is a self-led drop-in session, set-up/tear down and clean-up is expected by those that attend. Space is limited to 12 artists per session, one artist per table. Other Covid-19 safety measures will be posted inside the room. We hope to see you there!
Sessions days and times have been adjusted to accommodate a phased approach to the reopening of this facility. These new sessions will take place the first and third Tuesday of every month starting on September 15 from 9am - 12pm and will be re-assessed as we move forward with reopening plans.
Feature Artists will begin each session with a one-hour workshop followed by two hours of open studio time where you will remain in attendance to answer questions and give constructive feedback and suggestions. Each workshop will be on a specific topic/technique and will be for all skill levels. Topics can range from specific techniques to professional development.The City of Pitt Meadows is looking for experienced instructors and professional visual artists to be one of the Feature Artists for our Open Art Studio. These drop-in sessions occur twice a month: First Thursday of the month and the third Wednesday of the month (TBC) and to be eligible you must be available for both days.
Feature Artists will be chosen based on their experience, topic of the workshop and suitability.
Commitment & Compensation:
In order to provide a variety of techniques to the community, a different feature artist will be chosen for each of the following quarters:

Session times are as follows (this does not include set-up/take-down time):
First Thursday of the month 9:30 am to 12:30 pm (To be confirmed)
Third Wednesday of the month 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm (To be confirmed)
Compensation will be based on Carfac rates. Transportation, materials and preparation time is not included in this fee and is the responsibility of the Artist.
