PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER
We are seeking an individual to be involved in the care and upkeep of our parks, facility grounds and playground areas to ensure operational safety and enjoyment for all who use these areas. As part of the Parks team, this position will help oversee trail maintenance and playground inspections.
Reporting to and supporting the Parks Operations Supervisor these positions will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining and installing playground equipment, checking and repairing sprinkler systems in public spaces, inspecting and maintaining trails and other recreational facilities and performing horticulturally related tasks such as turf maintenance and vegetation control. The incumbents must be proficient in the use of a variety of equipment and hand tools, and understand the importance of encouraging a safety culture within the workplace. They may also oversee the work of junior parks staff. Applicants must possess the physical stamina to work outdoors in all weather, have excellent interpersonal skills, sound administrative skills, and embrace our vision of maintaining and enhancing Pitt Meadows’ natural beauty.
The successful candidates will have a Grade 12 education supplemented by a certificate in horticulture or turf-grass management plus sound experience in general parks maintenance work, be a CPRA – Certified Playground Inspector, have a St. John Ambulance First Aid Certificate or equivalent and a Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia.
Sound related experience at a supervisory level, preferably in a municipal or government agency parks setting, is preferred. Experience with sports field and irrigation maintenance and repairs would be considered an asset. An unrestricted Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Endorsement would also be considered an asset.
This is a full time CUPE position with a salary of $30.89 per hour, plus benefits.
The hours of work for these positions will be mainly scheduled between Monday and Friday, but may require some flexibility to accommodate varying workplace situations.
