The Emergency Program has recently added the FireSmart BC program  to the Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program suite of courses.

As we all share the responsibility for reducing the potential impacts of wildfire, we encourage our residents and property owners to join us in this important effort.

There are seven basic FireSmart principles, each of which play a role in a community’s wildfire resiliency:

  1. Education
  2. Vegetation Management
  3. Emergency Planning
  4. Cross-training
  5. Interagency Cooperation
  6. Legislation and Planning
  7. Development considerations

The FireSmart Coordinator who is trained as a Local FS Representative is available to help motivate and engage citizens to plan and act towards reducing wildfire losses in the community.

If you have questions about how you can become a FireSmart Neighbourhood Champion, or how you can learn more about FireSmart in Pitt Meadows, contact  the FS Coordinator at 604.803.3804 or email
