Water quality must comply with British Columbia’s Drinking Water Regulations. Samples are collected weekly from nine sites throughout the City for testing by Metro Vancouver. There is a re-chlorination station located on the Pitt River to ensure water quality.

Water Main Flushing

The City of Pitt Meadows Public Works Department flushes water mains annually from February to June (weather dependent).

During this time, there may be a temporary drop in water pressure or noticeable discolouration in tap water. To correct problems with milky water, open the cold tap slightly to bleed air from the water lines. If you experience problems with turbid water, turn on a tap and let it run until the water clears.

Backflow Prevention and Cross-Connection Control Program

The City’s Cross-Connection Control Program (CCP) ensures the delivery of safe drinking water by eliminating actual and/or potential cross connections within the City’s water distribution system by requiring the installation of approved backflow prevention devices on private and/or public properties.

Property owners and occupants have a responsibility to ensure that no cross connections exist on their property, as stated in the Waterworks Bylaw No. 2891, 2021. Click here to learn more about backflow prevention.
