A Highway Use Permit is necessary for a variety of types of development and business operations, including:

The Highway and Traffic Bylaw regulates the use, maintenance, and construction standards of highways in the City of Pitt Meadows.

Application Process

A Highway Use Permit may be required on its own or in conjunction with a development project.  The Engineering Department will only accept complete application packages, including:

  • Complete Highway Use Permit Application 
  • Fees and securities as outlined in the Highway and Traffic Bylaw, including:
    • Highway Use Permit Security – to repair damage likely to be done to the highway
    • Highway Use Permit Fee (application and inspection)

Approval Process

Your site may be inspected as part of your approval and monitoring process.  Your project must comply with applicable regulations and permit conditions at all times.

After review, the Engineering Department will execute the Highway Use Permit, taking into consideration the completion of the document, security, nature of the project, truck route map etc.  The applicant will be provided a copy for their records.

Renewal

To renew your permit, please provide the applicable application renewal fee (see Highway and Traffic Bylaw) and update all applicable specifications as necessary to identify any changes to site conditions and to demonstrate compliance with current bylaws and regulations.

Completion

If the Highway Use Permit is associated with a Building Permit, the Engineering Department must receive notification of final inspection from the Building Division before initiating the final engineering inspection.

For all other releases, the Engineering Division must receive communication indicating completion of the project and request for inspection.

Confirmation from a registered professional may also be required for release of securities, such as a Soil Removal and Deposit Permit. The security release must be approved by Pitt Meadows’ Engineering Department and will be released to the depositor.

How can I pay for my permit?

City Hall accepts cheques (payable to City of Pitt Meadows), cash, or debit card for all payments.  In some cases, Mastercard or Visa may be used.

Credit cards cannot be used for security deposits or amounts exceeding $1000.00
