Secondary suites are permitted in Pitt Meadows, as regulated in the Zoning Bylaw No. 2505. The primary goal in allowing secondary suites is to ensure that suites are safe and liveable. All secondary suites are required to be registered with the City.
Properties zoned RR, RS or R-1 with a single family house may be eligible to have either a secondary suite or a garden suite, but not both.
Garden suites (also known as carriage houses, coach houses, and laneway houses) are separate, self-contained dwelling units located on the same lot as the single family dwelling. A garden suite may be one storey or above a detached garage (two storey) depending on the zoning. Garden suites are permitted in Pitt Meadows, as regulated in the Zoning Bylaw No. 2505. The primary goal in allowing garden suites is to ensure that suites are safe and liveable. All garden suites are required to be registered with the City.
Properties zoned RR, RS or R-1 with a single family house may be eligible to have either a secondary suite or a garden suite, but not both.
Permits are required for in-ground and above-ground swimming pools with a surface area exceeding 14m2 or a depth exceeding 450mm to ensure all safety measures are in place.

Non-complex Permits
A "non complex" building means all buildings defined as Part 9 in the BC Building Code.
Complex Permits
A "complex building" means all buildings defined as Part 3, 4, 5, and 6 in the BC Building Code.
