PITT MEADOWS, BC – Celebrate Canada Day in Pitt Meadows on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. This year marks Canada’s 153rd birthday and the City invites everyone to join in some fun family-friendly activities.

“We are proud to invite families to celebrate Canada’s birthday in Pitt Meadows at home and online,” says Mayor Bill Dingwall. “While our celebrations might look a little different this year with COVID-19 restrictions on large gatherings, there’s still much to celebrate!”

Celebrate Canada Day in Pitt Meadows July 1, 2020 with the following activities:

  1. Shop local on Canada Day to win prizes – The City’s launching a passport program highlighting local businesses for the month of July.
  • Find a list of participating businesses on our website and print your passport, which will also be available at local shops.
  • Visit nine businesses throughout the month of July to stamp your passport and receive prizes and discounts.
  • Once you’ve filled your passport, take a photo and send it to events@pittmeadows.ca for a chance to receive one of four prize baskets of local goods.
  1. Enjoy pop-up concerts from your living room – Dance your heart out at home listening to pop-up concerts filmed around town. The recording will posted on July 1. Stay tuned for other pop-up entertainment.
  2. Take your family for a scavenger hunt – In celebration of the City’s newly wrapped BC Hydro boxes, we have selected 12 boxes along Harris Road and are posting a printable scavenger hunt sheet on our website.
  • Print the scavenger hunt sheet.
  • Kids will need to find a clue for each box (e.g. a ladybug) and write down the name of the artist, who goes with the clue.
  • Once your family has filled the whole sheet, take a photo of it and submit to events@pittmeadows.ca to be entered in a random draw for fun prizes.
  1. Get crafty online – We’re sharing Canada Day craft videos for children of all ages on our website. Tag photos of your favourite creations on social media using #sharepittmeadows.

“I want to thank City staff for finding new and family-friendly ways for our community to come together and celebrate Canada Day during these challenging times,” says Chief Administrative Officer Mark Roberts. “We are all looking forward to showing our Canadian spirit, unity and pride on July 1.”
