PITT MEADOWS, BC – The City of Pitt Meadows is celebrating Pride Month with a free concert featuring music from Vancouver band Queer As Funk on Thursday, June 16 at 7 p.m. in šxʷhék̓ʷnəs (Spirit Square).

“The City is very excited to celebrate our LGBTQ2IA+ community during Pride month,” says Mayor Bill Dingwall. “This year, Council made it a priority to develop more annual inclusivity initiatives, and we are proud to host this concert as one of the many ways to recognize and support diverse identities, histories, and cultures in Pitt Meadows.”

The event will feature student speakers from Pitt Meadows Secondary School’s (PMSS) PRISM Club, a gender and sexualities alliance club, as well as music from Vancouver funk band, Queer as Funk. There will be a variety of food options available at the event, including food trucks as well as hot dogs by the Pitt Meadows Lions Club for a cash donation.

“We hope this concert will be the first of many annual Pride events in Pitt Meadows,” says Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture, Diane Chamberlain. “We heard loud and clear from our community about their desire for more visibility for marginalized groups, and it has been heart-warming to see our community’s support for this event.”

In preparation for the event, the City’s Civic Centre will be adorned in rainbow Pride flag colours, including the šxʷhék̓ʷnəs (Spirit Square) bollards painted by PMSS students.
