Pitt Meadows, BC – The City of Maple Ridge and the City Of Pitt Meadows are pleased to announce that Inspector Jennifer Hyland has been selected as the new Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Ridge Meadows Detachment of the RCMP.

Jennifer has 19 years of policing experience including work in the Serious Crime Investigations Section and Professional Standards. Her policing career began with the New Westminster Police Department. Jennifer joined the RCMP in 2001. Jennifer served at the Ridge Meadows Detachment from 2006 until 2014, when she was transferred to the North Vancouver Detachment and promoted to the rank of Inspector. She returned to Ridge Meadows Detachment in October 2016 and has been serving as the Acting Officer in Charge since Superintendent David Fleugel left to take over as Chief Constable of the Port Moody Police Department.

Jennifer has lived in the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows area for many years and is a graduate of Garibaldi Secondary School. Her husband is also a police officer and together with their two children, they feel very connected to the area through their involvement in the local school, minor sports and community events.

“The City of Pitt Meadows is pleased to see Inspector Hyland promoted to Officer in Charge,” said Mayor John Becker. “Superintendent Hyland brings a tremendous amount of expertise and leadership experience. We look forward to working with Superintended Hyland as she guides the Ridge Meadows Detachment in serving and protecting the community. Her personal attachment to the two communities will be a great advantage.”

I am both humbled and honoured to be appointed as the Officer in Charge of the detachment” said Inspector Hyland.“I am very familiar with the area and understand our strengths and challenges. The detachment is full of amazing people who are dedicated to the safety and well-being of our communities and I look forward to leading them. Some of my mentors have previously held this position and I am so proud to follow in their footsteps”, she added.

As part of her new position, Jennifer will be promoted to the rank of Superintendent.
