PITT MEADOWS, BC – The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has announced their desire to engage the Pitt Meadows community with a concept plan for major improvements to the Lougheed Highway/Harris Road intersection. Initial planning was done in collaboration with the City of Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge and TransLink. Public engagement is expected to begin this fall.
“We are very excited to work with our partners on these much-needed improvements to this busy intersection in order to relieve congestion and enhance safety and access in this area,” says Mayor Bill Dingwall. “On behalf of Council and the City, I wish to express our appreciation to Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge MLA, Minister Beare for her support and strong advocacy work in helping to move this important project forward.”
Upgrades to the Lougheed Highway/Harris Road intersection will help improve traffic flow and safety for all users, including cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers.
“These upgrades will work in tandem with future traffic calming improvements along Old Dewdney Trunk Road to better facilitate the movement of farm vehicles and will help improve access to the proposed North Lougheed Connector, a direct commuter route to north east Maple Ridge,” says Mayor Bill Dingwall. “Together, these improvements will have incredible benefits to the people and businesses of Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge.”
“City and Ministry staff have been working together on this project for the last couple of years,” says Chief Administrative Officer Mark Roberts. “This initiative could result in significant investment by the Province that will take into consideration the safety of this intersection, the needs of the community, the plans for the North Lougheed Study Area, and future growth in the region.”
The Ministry is finalizing its public engagement plan, which will help inform the project design. The public will be notified when online engagement begins this fall.
