Definitions:

Field Open means the field has been inspected by parks staff and is considered to be in a safe and playable condition. Should weather conditions deteriorate and the field becomes soggy or has evidence of standing water on the surface, the game should be postponed or cancelled by the coach, club representative or referee.

User Discretion means the field has been inspected by Parks staff who consider the field to be safe and useable on the day of the inspection, however they have some concerns that the weather conditions may change prior to game day, and that games played during inclement weather conditions may be detrimental to the field for the balance of the season. This will provide the coaches with an opportunity to make a judgment call on the day of the game to allow the games to be played if the field condition is good, and ensure that games are not played if there is evidence of standing water on the field, frost, snow, or if there is heavy rain on the day of the game.

Field Closed means the field has been inspected and Parks staff have determined that there may be safety issues or damage could result if games are played, or have closed the field due to extreme weather conditions, excessive wear, repairs, to provide a rest period for the field, or until they have suitable weather conditions to carry out the
required repairs on the field. A field that has been closed by parks staff may only be reopened by a Parks representative.

Sport Field Bookings FAQ (updated July 13, 2020):

What sports activities are currently permitted on City fields?
Presently, the City of Pitt Meadows restricts the permitted activity for organized sports on City fields to skills development only. No games, scrimmages, contact or competition are allowed.

Sport in BC is currently in the Transition Measures stage according to the Return to Sport Activity Chart shown below. No future dates have been confirmed for league play. This information can be found on the viaSPORT website.

When will organized groups be able to book fields?
The City of Pitt Meadows Emergency Operations Leadership Team and the Parks, Recreation and Culture Department have now finalized our re-opening plan for organized sport groups to return to our City fields effective Monday, July 13, 2020. There were many steps involved in this process. We completed a Risk Assessment which has been approved by our Occupational Health and Safety Advisor and Emergency Operations Centre Director, created a COVID-19 Facility Safety Policy, and developed a Facility Rental Agreement Addendum which outlines the new COVID-19 Terms and Conditions for rental bookings including Space Use and Occupancy Limits, COVID-19 Public Health Requirements, and Informed Consent.

If you have not developed a COVID-19 Safety Plan, here are some links to resources that may be of assistance:

Our Parks Crews have installed the necessary COVID-19 safety signage. Individual sports groups are not required to post additional signage.

What are the fees for field bookings?
The Cities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows are working closely to coordinate a return to outdoor organized sport. The two cities have jointly decided to waive the Sport Field User Fees given the extraordinary circumstances caused by COVID-19. However, applicable field rental fees will still be collected and some of the requirements, policies and procedures will differ between the two municipalities.

How are field times allocated?
Field times are being rebooked based on the original summer allocation schedule with the exception of all special events. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will not approve any tournaments or special events this season.

How do I book a field and when can I expect to hear back?
New groups wishing to book field times are asked to forward their requests to bookings@pittmeadows.ca.  As City buildings remain closed and staff continue to work remotely, requests will be processed during daytime hours Monday – Friday.
