Code of Conduct

Behaviour Policy

It is our goal to create a program with your child’s wellbeing being our top priority. We adhere to a strict code of conduct to ensure the safety of all participants. If your child(ren) are not following the code of conduct we will follow up with parents at pick up time, if your child is being picked up by another authorized person we will phone home after the programs completion to discuss the behaviours.
If at any point during the program the actions of your child pose a risk to the safety and wellbeing of themselves, other participants, the public, or staff you will be contacted and asked to immediately pick up your child. If you are not able to personally do so you will need to arrange for an authorized individual to pick up your child.
If negative behaviour is ongoing, your child will be placed under a behavioural contract. A behavioural contract states that the child must follow specific rules or he/she will not be able to continue attending the program. Repeated instances may result in your child being removed from the program indefinitely.

Photo Release & Authorization

Pitt Meadows staff members will be taking photos of programs and events which may include pictures of your children for the sole purpose of promoting the City of Pitt Meadows registered programs. If you do not authorize the photography of your child,  please ensure the photo release is filled out properly on the participant information form.

Staff Qualifications

Program leaders are committed to providing the best experience possible for your child through their experience, diverse skillsets, and passion for working with children. All staff are Certified in First-Aid, CPR, and various emergency procedures.

Personal Belongings

We recommend leaving personal items at home to prevent them being broken or lost. Clothing or other items left behind will be placed in the lost & found located in the Lounge office. Any unclaimed items will be sent to a local charity one week after being held in storage. Label items with both first and last names to prevent them being placed in the Lost and Found.

Pitt Meadows Recreation Centre is a NUT-FREE ZONE

We adhere to a strict no nut policy due to the potential of serious allergies in children attending programs. We ask that parents and guardians respect the well-being of all participants and do not send nut products with your child(ren). Please read food labels carefully to ensure that your child(ren)’s lunch and snack items are NUT FREE .

Does the program run during Pro-D Days, Half Days or Student Conference Days?

No, the program only runs during regularly scheduled school days. We offer Pro-D Day Camps for parents in need of child care during those days. The Pro-D Day Camps run from 8:30am-4:00pm at the recreation centre.

Can My 5 year Old Join Kids Gym?

Depending on staffing availability, an exception may be made if an older sibling is registered and participating with the child. Extra staffing levels are required to accommodate this kind of request for the purposes of a staff to child ratio. Please contact Andy Buckle to discuss 604.465.2456

Can My Child Join Pre-Teen Rec If They Are Under 10?

On a case by case instance an exception may be made which entails a one week trial period where children will sign in with KIDS Gym and will be transferred over to Pre-Teen rec once they are back from the school pick-up. Leaders will assess whether they are a good fit for the Pre-Teen Rec age group, after the week trial completes.

What Does a Typical Pre-Teen Rec Day Look LIke?

Your child will be supervised, with this age group facilitating the following on their own: bathroom/water breaks, walk over authorization and sign in. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in lounge activities such as: pool, table tennis, foosball, homework, or video games. They will also have the ability to play gym games, and use the outdoor sports area (behind the youth lounge).  Please note that the use of the Gym is subject to its availability, and the outdoor sports area will be weather permitting.
