The City of Pitt Meadows is committed to its Emergency Program and the well-being of its citizens. As we are a small community there is limited resources in a large event such as a fire, flood or earthquake.
The Emergency Management Office will be offering six courses throughout 2019 that will assist neighbourhoods in helping themselves so that they do not have to rely solely on first responders. If a couple of people in each neighbourhood were to be trained in each component they would have a full complement of the Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program (NEPP). This is not a large commitment, one training and meeting a year.
The first of these courses being offered is:
Light Urban Search & Rescue (LUSAR)
9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Saturday, November 24, 2018
Meadows Room, City Hall (12007 Harris Road)
Light Urban Search & Rescue is one course of six of the NEPP (you are not required to take all six).
While attending this course you will learn the LUSAR techniques which are used in the event of a catastrophic event. You will learn:
- how to, and when not to, enter into a building;
- the proper techniques of search and rescue;
- appropriate equipment and apparel; and
- some first aid.
Participants must be over the age of 16. The first 20 people to register will receive a FOX 40 whistle to add to their emergency kits.
If you are interested you must pre-register as seating is limited.
