PITT MEADOWS, BC – The City of Pitt Meadows is requesting submissions from Katzie First Nations artists for Phase 2 of the BC Hydro Box Beautification Project. The City is working with BC Hydro to identify utility boxes at key locations to be wrapped with a selection of art work.
“This project is a true demonstration of the relationship growth with the City of Pitt Meadows and Katzie First Nation as we have worked really hard,” says Katzie First Nation Chief Grace George. “I’m excited for our community members to have this opportunity. We are calling upon digital artists, painters, and photographers to proudly display their art in public locations. Youth and elders are encouraged to submit a design proposal to the City by July 24.”
“This call for artists aims to honour and celebrate the creativity and skills of Katzie First Nation artists and their connection to the City of Pitt Meadows, located on the traditional territory of the Katzie First Nation,” says Mayor Bill Dingwall. “The project provides emerging artists with a space to showcase their work, while enhancing the aesthetics of the cityscape and deterring graffiti and vandalism.”
Selected artwork will be produced and installed along with the artist’s name on a BC Hydro box wrap. Artists, whose work is selected, will be compensated for their work and will be recognized, along with their designs on the City’s website, and social media channels.
