PITT MEADOWS, B.C. – The City of Pitt Meadows is seeking community feedback on an updated draft North Lougheed Area Plan, inviting residents and interested parties to help shape the roadmap for the future development of this area. A survey is now open until Sunday, June 7, and an open house is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27.
This updated draft plan builds on the principles of the area plan prepared in 2020 and continues to reflect community feedback from the extensive engagement held in 2019 and 2020.
More recently, the City focused on additional technical work and collaborative planning with q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) First Nation. These efforts are intended to support early consideration of cultural context and ensure that q̓ic̓əy̓ perspectives are reflected in the Area Plan, helping to improve understanding, reduce uncertainty and avoid unintended impacts as the area develops. The North Lougheed Area lies within q̓ic̓əy̓’s traditional and unceded territory and is a site of long-term q̓ic̓əy̓ use and occupation. Based on documented information, q̓ic̓əy̓ Peoples occupied and used this area for over four thousand years, consistent with q̓ic̓əy̓ oral histories describing a long-standing relationship with the land and waterways.
The draft plan addresses local needs with additional housing, generating new jobs and investment, protecting natural and cultural sites, preserving surrounding agricultural properties, and enhancing outdoor recreation through new parks and trails. Development of the North Lougheed Area will also support the construction of the North Lougheed Connector, which will improve overall traffic flow, enable traffic calming along Old Dewdney Trunk Road and enhance road safety in the agricultural area.
Community feedback gathered during this engagement phase will help inform the final area plan, which is anticipated to be presented to City Council in the late summer or early fall of 2026.
