PITT MEADOWS, BC – Last night Mayor and Council visited the Fire Hall to thank the Pitt Meadows Fire & Rescue Service for their efforts to manage two significant structure fires last week in addition to other medical and traffic related calls. They also took the opportunity to congratulate and welcome the two newest Fire Service Technicians (FSTs) Mark Davies and Sean de Jersey, both long time paid-on-call volunteers.
“The two additional FSTs allows us to address community safety by ensuring extended seven day per week coverage from 6am to 6pm. This covers commuting hours which is typically harder to staff and allows for response to chest pain calls and ambulance delays, exceeding 10 minutes,” says Mayor Dingwall.
16 paid-on-call volunteers from the Pitt Meadows Fire & Rescue Service competed in the rigorous recruitment process which involved a written exam, skills evaluation and two interviews.
The two new career FSTs brings the total number of full-time FSTs in the department to four. The department also includes a fire chief and two assistant chiefs.
Council also had the opportunity to welcome five new paid-on-call volunteer firefighters, recently recruited, bringing the total to 38.
“The cost for the enhanced Fire service levels is $28 per single family home or $15 per multi-family dwelling,” says Chief Administrative Officer Mark Roberts. Council is also moving forward with the planning and construction of a new fire hall which is expected to complete by 2022.
