PITT MEADOWS, BC – The City will host a celebration of the expansion of park and outdoor recreational space in Pitt Meadows with a sod turning and who’s who in local community sports at the Pitt Meadows Athletic Park on July 30.

As part of the development of the Golden Ears Business Park Phases 3 and 4, Onni Group Developments provided a significant amenity contribution to the City, consisting of 13 acres of green space in South Bonson. This includes eight acres of park land and five acres of an enhanced trail network, with an estimated value of $22.5 million.

“This is a celebration and a way to kick off an opportunity for the community to tell us how they would like this space used to expand outdoor recreation or sports in Pitt Meadows,” said Mayor John Becker.

“Whether that’s a sport track, field space, sport courts, green park space or additional trails – there are tons of opportunities.”

The addition of the park land is an opportunity to re-envision the entire athletic park complex and to expand the user base for residents of all ages and all abilities. The City will be launching a Parks and Recreation Master Planning process later this fall which will shape its programs and services, and the feedback from the public on the outdoor recreation space at Pitt Meadows Athletic Park will feed into the overall plan.

The celebration takes place on Monday, July 30 at 7pm with Global BC’s Kaitlyn Herbst as MC, with remarks by local leaders and community sporting groups, followed by a sod turning and recreational activities. Everyone is invited and refreshments will be served.

Residents and community sport groups interested in participating can offer input on potential uses of the outdoor recreation lands at haveyoursaypittmeadows.ca.
