Pitt Meadows is synonymous with herons. The heron being in the same family as the crane, Brad Dinwoodie and Susann Sigmund were inspired to create a Community Art Project which involved over a thousand paper cranes. The artists and volunteers, worked with each of the four elementary schools, to teach the students the art of folding origami paper cranes. Each school was given one of the Pitt Meadows City colours. After many hours and lots of fun, the result was over 1,400 colourful, beautiful and individually unique paper cranes which adorn the lobby of the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre. The project was driven entirely by volunteers and donations. Installation took place on October 1st, 2016, as part of the Culture Days Celebrations.
