The Community Services Department consists of three distinct divisions, Development Services, Cultural Services, and Recreation Services.
The Community Services Department oversees the delivery of services directly related to the community. The team provides direct customer service, while balancing the efficient service alignment established by Council’s direction. In addition, the team works strategically to ensure that City services respond to defined community needs, and that business systems and policies support efficient delivery, quality and equitable access.
Development Services provides guidance and services to achieve goals toward sustainable growth set out in the Official Community Plan (OCP). These include community planning; short and long-term planning, subdivision approval, rezoning, development permit and application processing; building permits and inspections; management of the City’s Cross Connection Control program; licensing for business and dogs; bylaw enforcement; business readiness initiatives, and Council Advisory Committee support.
Arts, Culture & Heritage (Cultural Services) develops and implements arts and culture initiatives, programs, and activities in the community. This includes creating and implementing an Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategic Plan, encouraging support, providing leadership, engagement and education, and managing and maintaining the City's Art in Public Places program and inventory.
Recreation Services offers a wide variety of social, cultural and recreational programming opportunities to residents across the community. The team encourages healthy lifestyles by creating opportunities for participation in sports and recreation for residents of all ages, and encouraging residents to become connected and engaged in the community.
