City of Pitt Meadows Social Media User Guidelines

The City of Pitt Meadows welcomes your comments, input and feedback and encourages open and engaging dialogue on our social media sites.

In order to create safe and fair participation online, and ensure our page is useful and relevant for everyone, the City of Pitt Meadows has established guidelines for those who wish to engage on our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and Youtube).   

By interacting with the City of Pitt Meadows online, you agree to:

  • Be respectful towards all users of the site.
  • Not post content that is offensive, inflammatory or provocative, including swearing, obscene or vulgar comments (ie. drugs, racism, pornography, obscenities).
  • Not use language that is discriminatory, hateful, or violent towards identifiable groups or that incites others to discriminate, practice hate or violence.
  • Not post or upload content that breaks the law or encourage others to do so. This includes defamation, breaching privacy, breaching another person’s intellectual property rights such as copyright, condoning illegal activity and contempt of court.
  • Not post personal information such as addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or other online contact details relating either to you or other individuals.
  • Not impersonate or falsely claim to represent a person or an organization.
  • Not make any commercial endorsement or promotion of any product, service or publication.
  • Not post information that may compromise the safety or security of city staff, the public or public systems; or content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party.
  • Not post spam or comments that are repetitive.
  • Abide by the Terms of Use for the company hosting the site.

Violating these social media commenting guidelines may result in comments being removed or blocking access to our social channels. Comments will be addressed Monday to Friday between regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. When a comment is removed any subsequent replies under the comment are automatically removed as a result. 

The City reserves the right to limit or turn off comments on any City social media post if comments do not follow our guidelines or if moderation is required to maintain a respectful and constructive discussion.

Please note that the City’s social media channels are used strictly for official City communications and therefore does not allow third party or user posts. The City may share information and events from government agencies, partners and community groups that are relevant to the community, subject to approval.
