“Small Wonder” was done in memory of my cousin George, an entomologist who I was working to complete his book on dragonflies when he met an untimely death. He grew up on Advent Road, directly north of our home on Ford Road, and our two families were very dear to one another. |
Jean Abbott grew up in Pitt Meadows, and later settled in Maple Ridge,
where she currently lives.
When she retired from teaching in 2006, she joined the Garibaldi Art Club,
which gave her the opportunity to meet and become friends with a number
of other artists. She has been the Club secretary for a number of years.
In 2012, Jean also became a member of the Group of Nine, most of whom
also belonged to the Garibaldi Art Club. They met monthly for a number of
years, for sharing and critiquing each other’s “works-in-progress”.
She currently works mainly with acrylics, but also does some oil painting.
Jean paints in a realistic style, usually using her own photos as references.
Her subject matter is varied; Jean enjoys depicting textures, whether they
are found in nature or in man-made objects.
