This painting is meant to be cheerful and colourful, not realistic. I have taken liberties with colours and shapes, and arranged them in a way that you may not see in a garden. The weeds, of course, help to add some realism. Poppies, among my favourite flowers, play a prominent role here. |
Although Gwen has always had an interest in creative activities, it was
not until she retired that painting became a part of her life. She began
by taking various art classes from local prominent artists. She attended
workshops with the White Rock School of Art and the Federation of
Canadian Artists.
Gwen enjoys the process, the challenge and the satisfaction of painting
in watercolours and acrylics. Her preference is for acrylics, using bold
colours and lines. Her landscapes include cliffs, rocks, and trees. Her
paintings stray from realism; she enjoys the freedom to interpret scenes
in her own way, rather than trying to portray accurately.
Born and raised in B.C., she resides in Langley, B.C., where the nearby
ocean, mountains, forest and countryside provide inspiration for subject
matter. Her paintings are often influenced by her travels across Canada.
Gwen is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Fraser Valley
Chapter. She is also a member of the Port Kells Art Club and the South
Surrey and White Rock Art Club. Her work has been shown in juried
exhibitions as well as other local shows.
