Pitt Meadows Art Gallery Exhibition
Exhibition runs July 12 - August 24, 2025 - Native Art Renaissance Foundation: Signs of Healing
The Pitt Meadows Art Gallery (PMAG), located on the main floor of the South Bonson Community Centre will open on Saturday, July 12, 2025 with the next exhibition titled Native Art Renaissance Foundation: Signs of Healing. This exhibition features the works of James Groening and his Native Renaissance Foundation.
For over 400 years, Indigenous people have endured immense hardship—marked by colonization, forced displacement, cultural erasure and acts of genocide. The legacy of this trauma has created generations of pain and systemic inequality.
Still today, some ask—often with indifference or disdain—“Why can’t they just move on?” or “When will they be healed?” These questions overlook the depth of the harm and the time it takes to heal from centuries of injustice.
And yet, the works in this exhibition tell a different story. They do not dwell solely in sorrow. Instead, they radiate joy, connection, resilience, and the enduring strength of family and community. This is not the absence of pain—it is the presence of healing. These pieces reflect a process, not an endpoint.
James Groening and his Native Art Renaissance Foundation invites viewers to not only observe, but to actively witness and participate in the healing process. This multi-artist exhibition features a diverse range of media, from acrylic paintings to painted deer skin and cedar carvings. It showcases the work of both emerging artists and professional artists, including youth. All work will be available for sale.
As Indigenous communities continue to reclaim their voices, cultures, and identities, their art becomes a living expression of strength, pride and transformation. It shows us what healing can look like: powerful, beautiful, and ongoing.
Together, we move forward. Together, we heal.
The Pitt Meadows Art Gallery is located at the South Bonson Community Centre on the traditional territory of the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) First Nation. The gallery features artwork from local and regional artists and handmade wares by local artisans. All work will be available for sale.
