PITT MEADOWS, B.C. – The City of Pitt Meadows celebrated the official opening of the new Pitt Meadows RCMP Detachment, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, alongside q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) First Nation and representatives from the BC RCMP, federal and provincial governments and community partners.
“Council and I are very proud to celebrate this new facility, which represents a meaningful investment in the safety and well-being of our community,” says Pitt Meadows Mayor Nicole MacDonald. “This modern, purpose-built space will support our officers and the important work they do every day. The transition to an autonomous detachment further strengthens our ability to deliver responsive, community-focused policing tailored to the needs of Pitt Meadows. Together, these advancements lay the foundation for a safer, more connected and resilient community, now and for the future.”
The new Pitt Meadows RCMP Detachment officially opened on April 1, 2026, following the de-integration of the former Ridge Meadows RCMP policing model and the transition to autonomous detachments serving Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge.
The ceremony opened with a traditional welcome, drumming and singing from q̓ic̓əy̓ Chief Grace George and q̓ic̓əy̓ Councillor David Kenworthy.
A Flag Raising Ceremony followed, to pay tribute to those who served in the surrounding communities in the past and present. The flags raised included: Canada; Province of B.C.; City of Pitt Meadows; and q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) First Nation.
A cake cutting ceremony was held by Assistant Commissioner Elija Rain, Lower Mainland District Commander, along with Pitt Meadows Mayor Nicole MacDonald, q̓ic̓əy̓ Chief Grace George and Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Michelle Luca.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was also proudly held by members of the Pitt Meadows City Council and q̓ic̓əy̓ Council in front of the new facility.
