PITT MEADOWS, B.C. – The City of Pitt Meadows is honouring two community volunteers whose dedication to local sport and community life has made a lasting impact on generations of residents.
Council approved the honourary naming of two ball diamonds: Pat Hardy Field at North Bonson Park; and Coach Seven Field at Pitt Meadows Athletic Park.
The honourary names recognize the significant volunteer contributions of Pat Hardy and Greg “Coach 7” Bodnarchuk, both of whom dedicated decades of service to youth sport, mentorship and community building in Pitt Meadows and the broader Ridge Meadows area. The naming coincides with Council’s approval of Council Policy C114 – Sponsorship, Naming and Honorary Naming Rights Policy at the Public Council Meeting on July 21, 2026, establishing a consistent framework for reviewing sponsorship, naming and honourary naming of City assets.
“Pitt Meadows is shaped by people who give their time, energy and care to support others,” says Mayor Nicole MacDonald. “These honourary field names recognize two individuals whose volunteer contributions have helped create meaningful opportunities for local athletes, families and the broader community.”
Coach Seven Field at Pitt Meadows Athletic Park, Diamond #7
Greg “Coach 7” Bodnarchuk has contributed more than three decades of volunteer service to youth baseball in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge. Since 1995, Greg has served as a coach, mentor, administrator and community leader, helping shape positive sport experiences for thousands of children and families while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, respect and community involvement. Known throughout the community as “Coach 7,” his legacy continues through the Super 7 program and tournament, which introduces new generations of children to the game he dedicated so much of his life to supporting.
“Greg’s contributions were never about personal recognition,” said Ryan Carpenter, who nominated Greg for this honour. “They were about creating opportunities for young people, strengthening community connections and making youth sport a positive experience for everyone involved. Naming a field in his honour provides lasting recognition of someone whose efforts have positively impacted countless residents and whose legacy continues to influence our community today.”
Pat Hardy Field at North Bonson Park
Pat Hardy was a dedicated Pitt Meadows volunteer and community builder whose service to Ridge Meadows Minor Softball Association began in 1977, when she coached her daughters’ softball teams. She went on to serve in several executive roles, including president from 1987 to 1989, and received an honourary lifetime membership from the association in 1995. Pat played an important role in supporting accessible, affordable youth sport, improving local field amenities and fostering community connection through her generosity, hospitality and many neighbourhood traditions. Pat passed away in March 2024.
“Pat was a dear friend to the Pitt Meadows community and will be missed by all,” says Andy Cleven, who nominated Pat for this honour. “She never stopped giving her time and energy and was always there to support the community. It is important that community builders are recognized for their contributions, and naming the field at North Bonson in memory of Pat is a meaningful way to honour her legacy.”
Signage recognizing the honourary field names will be installed at North Bonson Park and Pitt Meadows Athletic Park in the coming weeks.
