William Struthers Jr. (1892-1970) came to Pitt Meadows in 1921 with his parents, William Sr. and Jeannie, and his brothers, Jack and Robert. The family operated the Pitt Meadows General Store and Post Offi ce on Harris Road, with Maggie Cutler joining the family business upon her marriage to William Jr. in 1931. William Jr. purchased this property in 1929 and constructed the house at the corner of Harris Road and 122nd Street in 1931. He continued to work as a general merchant until 1955, and lived in the house until his death in 1970. The Struthers family continued to own the property until it was sold to the District of Pitt Meadows in 1994, with the Ridge Meadows Women’s Centre becoming tenants later that year.
Reflecting its Depression-era construction, the house is a simple, one-storey bungalow, distinct for its diamond-paneed leaded windows and elaborate brackets supporting the hoot over the front entrance.
