Cooling Centre Open in Pitt Meadows

Updated July 10, 2024 - The City is opening the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre (PMFRC) as a free, daily drop-in cooling centre for community members—and their pets—looking to find relief from the heat. The cooling centre will be run by City staff members and Emergency Support Services volunteers who will provide guests with bottled water, washroom access and seating. Pets are permitted if on leash or in a carrier.

The PMFRC cooling centre is located at 12027 Harris Road, and will be open:

  • Sunday, July 7, from 11:00 am to 8:00 p.m.
  • Monday, July 8, from 11:00 am to 8:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 9, from 11:00 am to 8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, July 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The City is reminding residents to check on vulnerable neighbours, friends and family members several times a day, especially in the evening. Never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle, and watch for symptoms of overheating.
