Update August 7, 2024 – The BC River Forecast Centre has issued a High Streamflow Advisory for the Fraser River downstream of Hope due to the landslide on the Chilcotin River. Please use caution near rivers, especially with children and pets, as potential debris and sudden rising water levels could have strong current and could destabilize riverbanks. Please see the Government of British Columbia's public information web page / portal that includes the most current information about the Chilcotin River Landslide: gov.bc.ca/landslide.
The Government of Canada has issues a Navigational Warning (NAVWARN) to support awareness to people recreating and/or working on the Fraser River. There is potential for the debris to travel the entire length of the Fraser River, from the confluence with the Chilcotin River all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The actual debris volume that will make it past the debris trap is unknown. It is recommended that:
- All Mariners should use caution navigating, especially at night.
- Recreational craft of all types should avoid navigating Fraser River and its Delta until conditions clear.
