We’re asking residents to help keep our community and bears safe by securing all garbage and organic waste carts and removing other attractants. The City has received reports of increased bear sightings and activity.

City of Pitt Meadows Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Bylaw (No. 2568, 2012) requires residents and businesses to secure garbage, green waste and other items that attract bears and other wildlife. The bylaw applies to all properties, regardless of whether they receive City waste collection.

  • Only set out your garbage and green carts on collection day between 5:30am and 8am (and as close to 8am as possible) on collection day.
  • Remove all solid waste containers, once emptied, from the public street or lane, within twelve hours of the collection on the collection date (and as soon as possible following collection).
  • Failure to comply may result in penalties being issued.

The City appreciates your cooperation regarding the need to adhere to this Bylaw for your safety as well as bear safety. Please read this information about managing bear attractants.
