October 17, 2024 - The BC River Forecast Centre has issued a Flood Watch for the Lower Fraser Tributaries including rivers around Metro Vancouver, Lower Mainland, and Fraser Valley due to heavy rainfall in the forecast over the next few days. Environment Canada has also issued a Special Weather Statement for Metro Vancouver, calling for prolonged heavy rain with strong winds. Please use caution near rivers and on dikes, especially with children and pets, as the rising water levels could have strong currents and could destabilize riverbanks. Be cautious of storm hazards like water pooling on the roads, and possible power outages from tree damage.
In the event of power outages and fallen trees during storm season, follow these tips:
- Help clear storm drains of leaves and debris to prevent flooding and allow proper drainage.
- Stay safe: look for downed power lines and keep a safe distance. Please report power outages directly to BC Hydro at bchydro.com/outages.
- Keep calm and patient in the event of a power outage: there are likely multiple houses needing help.
- Please report issues or problem areas at pittmeadows.ca/reportaproblem or call 604-465-2434.
- Property owners are responsible for removing trees or branches on their own property. Don’t forget, small pieces of tree debris can go in your green bin if they aren’t too heavy.
