As fall and winter bring heavier rain and stronger winds, the City of Pitt Meadows is reminding residents to plan ahead, stay informed and take steps to stay safe. Stormy weather can lead to flooding, pooling water, power outages, fallen trees and branches, reduced visibility, hazardous travel conditions and delays.

September 28, 2026 - A Yellow Rainfall Warning is currently in effect for Pitt Meadows. Heavy rain is expected from this evening, Monday, September 28, until Tuesday afternoon, September 29. Total rainfall amounts of 50 to 70 mm are expected. Strong, gusty southeasterly winds are also forecast overnight and Tuesday morning. Allow extra time for travel, drive to conditions and avoid walking or driving through flooded areas.
What Does a Yellow Warning Mean?
Environment Canada uses yellow, orange and red alerts to communicate the potential impacts of severe weather. A Yellow Warning indicates weather may cause damage, disruption or health impacts. Impacts are expected to be moderate, localized and/or short-term.

To Prepare for Stormy Weather
- Avoid forested areas during windy weather.
- Allow extra time for travel, especially during heavy rain or strong winds.
- Reduce your speed while driving and watch for standing water, slippery roads and reduced visibility.
- Use caution near rivers, dikes and flood-prone areas. Water levels can rise quickly, and currents may be strong.
- Secure outdoor items, such as patio furniture, garbage bins and decorations, that could be blown away by wind.
- Clear leaves and debris from storm drains and catch basins near your home to help improve stormwater flow.
- Report flooding, blocked drains or other issues at pittmeadows.ca/report or call 604-465-2434.
- Property owners are responsible for removing trees and branches from their own property. Small pieces of tree debris may be placed in your green bin, if they are not too heavy.
City crews take proactive steps each fall to prepare for storm season, including lowering ditch levels, adjusting drainage stations to winter settings, inspecting pump stations, monitoring rainfall and water levels, and opening drainage gates during heavy rain and low tides to support drainage.
