As the rainy season continues, the City of Pitt Meadows is reminding residents to stay safe, plan ahead and take steps to help reduce localized flooding. Fall and winter often brings heavy rain and strong winds that can create pooling water, reduced visibility and travel delays.
- Check the B.C. River Forecast Centre for current high streamflow advisories in place before you head out on the dikes. Any Flood Warning or Flood Watch advisories will be shared on our Notices page: pittmeadows.ca/notices.

Be Alert During Stormy Weather
- Avoid forested areas during windy weather.
- Heavy rain and strong winds can reduce visibility and create hazardous travel conditions.
- Water may pool on roads and in low-lying areas.
- Allow extra time for travel and drive with caution, especially during heavy downpours or gusty winds.
- Reduce your speed while driving and watch for standing water or slippery conditions.
- Secure outdoor items such as patio furniture, garbage bins or decorations that could be blown away by wind.
- Use caution near rivers, dikes, and flood-prone areas, as water levels can rise quickly and currents may be strong.
How You Can Help
Residents can play an important role in reducing localized flooding and keeping the community safe:
- Clear storm drains and catch basins near your home of leaves and debris to improve stormwater flow.
- Report flooding, blocked drains or other issues at pittmeadows.ca/report or call 604-465-2434.
- Property owners are responsible for removing trees or branches on their own property. Small pieces of tree debris can go in your green bin if they aren’t too heavy.

How the City Prepares
City crews take several proactive steps each fall to prepare for storm season:
- Lowering ditch levels and setting drainage stations to winter settings.
- Inspecting and servicing pump stations to ensure proper operation.
- Monitoring rainfall and water levels and adjusting operations as needed.
- Opening drainage gates during heavy rain and low tides to help water flow out efficiently.
