Welcome to Pitt Meadows Parks Air Bee and Bee!
ImageBee hotels are a great way to help our solitary bees by providing much-needed shelter in our gardens and park spaces. It is estimated that there are around 500 species of bees in British Columbia. Most of them are solitary bees that do not live in hives and do not make any honey.
Solitary bees are the super-pollinators of the garden! They live solo and forage and fend for themselves. Unlike honey bees, these solitary bees are extremely docile and are up to three times more effective at pollinating! The availability of nesting sites is key to the survival of these species. Our hotels are made from sustainable materials that are easy to keep clean and maintain.
Where you can find the bee hotels: Civic Centre, Harris Road Park, MacLean Park, North Commons Park, Hammond Boulevard, and Shoreline Park.
We would like to give a special thanks to the kids from this year's Build it Camp. They helped create these new spaces for the bees to live in. Thanks for bee-ing there kids!
This project was partially funded by the BC Hydro Community ReGreening Program.
