August 14, 2024 - Shoreline Park is a popular destination park that sees many visitors per year. Given the high usage of the trail and proximity to homes, the City hired Diamond Head Consulting to do a Tree Risk Assessment that focused on evaluating the likelihood of tree failure, the potential impact, and the severity of consequences in the event of a failure. Results from the assessment revealed that 20 Black Cottonwood trees pose significant risks due to poor health and structural issues. For the health and safety of the Park, these trees will be removed. The work will take approximately 2 weeks, with an estimated completion date of Friday, August 30. Parts of the trail will have temporary closures related to the tree work, see the web notice and FAQs for up to details.
This information was presented to City Council on June 25, 2024. Watch the Council Meeting video and read the staff report to Council for more background on this topic. If you have further questions, please email ParksAndRec@pittmeadows.ca.
ImageHoffmann Park Tree Removal
Update July 11, 2024 - Please be advised, the removal of decayed trees at Hoffmann Park is complete. The project is ahead of schedule, and safety concerns have been resolved. Hoffmann Park will reopen to the public at 3pm Friday, July 12, 2024.
Crews will be onsite next week for the clearing of debris and lumber but the park will remain open.
June 27, 2024 - Several Douglas-fir and Western Hemlock trees in Hoffmann Park have significant decay from Phaeolus schweinitzii. This is a root and butt rot fungus that attacks the roots and the lower 10 feet of the stem. As this decay progresses, wood loses its structural integrity, making the trees vulnerable to breakage and wind throw. This rot poses significant risks to public safety and compromises the overall health and resilience of the forest stand.
Prioritizing safety and sustainability, the removal of ten Western Hemlocks and six Douglas-fir trees will begin on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, and will take approximately three weeks to complete. Once the safety concerns have been addressed, further investigation and soil analysis will be done to determine future management and replanting efforts.
For the safety of workers and the public, areas of the park will be closed while the work is in progress.

Proposed Plans for Harris Road Park and Pitt Meadows Athletic Park (PMAP)
The City of Pitt Meadows is developing a new master plan for Harris Road Park. The intent is to re-imagine the park as a community park dedicated to passive recreation, social gatherings, and public events. The plan proposes to retain some existing features of the park and introduce new elements to enhance its character and function. This plan is intended to ensure Harris Road Park continues to serve as a vibrant park space for the community.
The City of Pitt Meadows is developing an expansion plan for Pitt Meadows Athletic Park. The expansion plan is spurred by the City’s recent acquisition of the Amenity Lands site, an eight-acre parcel of land adjacent to the existing park. The expansion plan proposes to introduce new sports and support facilities to the site as well as integrate this area into the existing park. The plan is intended to ensure the expanded Pitt Meadows Athletic Park continues to meet the active recreational needs of the community.
Your input will help develop the future of Harris Road Park and Pitt Meadows Athletic Park.

March 2023 - Mitchell Park has been assessed and staff have concluded that the current playground has aged out and needs to be replaced. The park has the potential to become one of the most visited parks in the area due to its proximity to the City Centre and the large open space it offers.
The park management team has initiated a Request for Proposal (RFP) process to solicit playground design proposals from qualified contractors. The new playground designs will be available after the RFP process is complete. The team is looking for designs that are not only fun and engaging but also safe, durable, and inclusive for all visitors.
The current location of the playground has become problematic due to its low-lying position and susceptibility to flooding. Therefore, the park management team has decided to select a new location within the park for the new playground. This location will be chosen based on factors such as accessibility, visibility, and safety.
