Community Policing Unit
The Community Policing Unit focuses on building partnerships between the local police force, police volunteers and the community of Pitt Meadows to educate and address the root causes of crime instead of reacting to them. A variety of programs and volunteer opportunities will be available.
The programs offered include:
- Speed and Cell Watch – A volunteer run community-based safety program designed to reduce traffic indents.
- Citizens on Patrol – A community-based prevention program where trained volunteers work with police to act as an extra set of eyes and ears by deploying to areas of the community where there is a higher potential for crimes to occur.
- Auto Crime Watch – A BC RCMP initiative aimed at reducing vehicle thefts and break-ins through volunteer patrols, educational notices and public understanding.
- Block Watch – A Crime Prevention program that involves neighbours looking out for each other’s property and reporting suspicious activity to local police. This program strives to foster a safe and more connected neighbourhood.
