March 7, 2025 (12:00 p.m.) - Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning in effect for Metro Vancouver - northeast, including Pitt Meadows. A long episode of rain, at times heavy, is expected.

What: Total rainfall amounts near 75 to 120 mm.

When: Overnight to Sunday afternoon.

Additional information and tips:

  • An atmospheric river will bring periods of heavy rain to parts of the South Coast this weekend.
  • Periods of rain will start over central and northern sections of Metro Vancouver and Howe Sound tonight (Friday) and become heavy on late overnight.
  • Periods of heavy rain will taper off Sunday afternoon as the atmospheric river pushes southeastward and weakens.
  • Total rainfall amounts of 60 to 75 mm can be expected over central sections of Metro Vancouver.
  • Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
  • If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.

March 7, 2025 (8:30 a.m.) - Due to the atmospheric river in the forecast, the BC River Forecast Centrehas issued a High Streamflow Advisory for the South Coast including Sunshine Coast, Howe Sound, Sea-to-Sky, North Shore Mountains, Metro Vancouver, and Fraser Valley.

A High Streamflow Advisory means that river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, but that no major flooding is expected. Fast-flowing bodies of water increase risk to life safety. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Be on the lookout for:

  • Water pooling on roads.
  • Localized flooding due to blocked drains.

Please use caution near rivers and on dikes, especially with children and pets, as the rising water levels could have strong currents and could destabilize riverbanks. Learn more: pittmeadows.ca/riverwatch.
