With appreciation to our additional sponsors Mark Ragan, Land Logic Excavating; Nick Wall, Premier Pacific Seed; John Gould-Thorpe, Ace Runners; and Jordan Stace-Smith.January 9, 2025 - We hope park users are loving the newly re-opened Bonson Park, now open for play! While the park is already buzzing with activity, visitors may have questions about the project’s progress. Below is the latest update:
Is the Park Finished?
Not quite—but we’re getting there!
- Major upgrades are done, but we opened early for the winter holidays so the beloved tobogganing hills could be enjoyed—plus, there very well may still be snow to come in the forecast!
- Additional drainage work will happen once the wet weather subsides.
- Permanent T-boxes will replace the current temporary ones. These temporary setups allow us to fine-tune the park’s layout, ensuring a smooth experience for trail users, park-goers and disc golf enthusiasts alike.
A Huge Thank You!
We could not have done this without our amazing volunteers and donors: Mark Ragan, Land Logic Excavating; Nick Wall, Premier Pacific Seed; John Gould-Thorpe, Ace Runners; and Jordan Stace-Smith.

October 7, 2025 - The City has been carefully monitoring and working to retain the trees around Civic Centre. After ongoing assessment, three Horsechestnut trees have now reached the point where they must be removed to ensure the safety of the public and staff.
Several serious concerns have been identified:
• Significant internal decay in the main stems, leading to very poor structural integrity.
• Previous branch and upper stem failures, showing that the trees can no longer safely support themselves.
• Oozing seams and decay around branch attachment points, a sign of advanced internal breakdown.
• Overall poor health and vigor, with widespread leaf browning, leaf spot, and chlorosis.Together, these issues mean the trees are in significant decline and pose a risk of complete failure. As part of our Urban Forest Strategy, the area has been thoroughly assessed, and removal is the most responsible course of action. While it is always difficult to lose mature trees, this decision prioritizes community safety.

September 2025 - Project completed.
August 2025 - Thanks to a $3,500 grant from the Trans Canada Trail, we are excited to launch a youth-led trail improvement project at Shoreline Park, beginning August 2025. This initiative will support trail maintenance and environmental stewardship by hiring a youth worker to help with blackberry trimming, trail repairs and general upkeep along this scenic section of the Trans Canada Trail. The project not only enhances a well-loved community trail but also provides a meaningful hands-on experience for local youth.
May 5, 2025 - Please be advised, tree planting has begun at Bonson Park. There will be 40+ trees planted. The trees will provide shade for users and enhance the park’s natural beauty and sustainability. The park will remain open. We ask park users to keep a safe distance from tree planting areas, equipment and workers.
Estimated Project Timeline (weather permitting): 2 to 4 weeks.

Bonson Disc Golf Course - Open for Play
March 25, 2025 - We’re happy to share that the Bonson Disc Golf Course has reopened following recent aeration and drainage work. While the improvements are now in place, it will take some time for the sand to fully integrate into the soil and support long-term drainage throughout the course.
We encourage players to enjoy the course with a few simple reminders:
• Watch for puddles in lower-lying areas
• Wear appropriate footwear (water-resistant shoes or boots are a good idea!)
• Dress for the weather to stay comfortable while you playLater this spring, the Parks Department will be planting trees throughout the park. These future plantings will enhance the course, help define fairways, provide shade and support the natural drainage and soil stability.
Thank you for your patience during the temporary closure as we work to improve Bonson Park for all visitors. Happy throwing!
We encourage park users with additional comments, concerns or questions to reach out to our parks team at parksandrec@pittmeadows.ca.

Thursday, March 20, 2025 – The City will be removing four Western Hemlock and two Alder trees at Harris Road Park on Friday, March 21, 2025. This work is scheduled now to take advantage of contractor availability and rainy weather conditions, helping to minimize disruption to the park.
The trees are being removed due to safety concerns. The Hemlocks have experienced significant decline due to infestations of western hemlock looper moths and the effects of climate change. The Alder trees have been assessed as structurally unsound and do not meet safety standards given their location in a high-use area. Removing these trees now will help protect park visitors and maintain the health of the surrounding forest.
Why is removal necessary?
The western hemlock looper moth (Lambdina fiscellaria lugubrosa) is an insect that feeds on Hemlock needles, stripping the trees of their foliage. This weakens the trees and makes them more vulnerable to disease, pests, and environmental stress. When trees lose their needles repeatedly, they decline quickly and eventually die. Climate change has worsened these outbreaks, accelerating tree deterioration. Removing these weakened trees now reduces safety risks and supports the long-term health of the park’s forest.
Commitment to replanting and forest resilience
The City remains committed to maintaining a healthy and sustainable urban forest. While tree removal is sometimes necessary, it also creates an opportunity for renewal. A diverse selection of new trees will be planted to enhance biodiversity and improve the overall resilience of the park’s ecosystem.
For the safety of workers and park visitors, some areas of the park may be temporarily closed during the work.
